The CEC’s focus and main theme has long been to promote research-to-action that is responsive to the needs of NJ communities. This is accomplished through support of community-engaged and community-driven research. Working with community partners, we apply CEED scientific expertise and resources to help communities initiate changes in policy and practice at the local, state, national, and global levels (i.e., climate change). Benefitting from long-term relationships with affected populations, the CEC continues to increase its effectiveness through interactive dialogue and presentations. The CEC participates in the regular meetings/events of our community partners including the Coalition for a Healthy Port, Clean Water Action, the NJ Environmental Justice Alliance, and Groundwork Elizabeth, and the Housing and Community Development Network of NJ. The CEC has fostered interactions among communities, policymakers, public health professionals, and scientists to build community capacity to engage in community science and environmental health policy, particularly around air monitoring projects to evaluate air quality in EJ communities.
